How a Berg Bat Is Made

Every Berg Bat is handmade in Colorado Springs, Colorado. That's been true since day one. Here's the story behind the bats and the steps each one goes through before it reaches your hands.

Where it started

Trevor Goldberg founded Berg Bat in 2010, while he was a varsity catcher at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs. He wasn't impressed with the wood bats he could buy, so he started learning the science and craft behind a better one. Within a year, Berg bats were being swung in college, high school, and youth baseball.

The standard he set then hasn't changed: quality first, every time. As the shop puts it, "If it carries the Berg name, it meets the Berg standard."

Step 1: Grading the wood

Every bat starts as a billet of maple, birch, or ash. Every billet is graded by hand, and only pro-grade wood moves on. Since a bat can only be as good as the wood it's made from, this is the step we take most seriously.

Step 2: Turning the profile

The billet is turned to the bat's profile, its shape from knob to barrel. Each model has its own profile, and the profile decides how the weight is spread along the bat and how it feels through the zone. Our lineup includes fully custom Legacy Series gamers, Raw Series gamers, Pro Fungos, and trainers.

Step 3: Hand-sanding

After turning, every bat is hand-sanded. This is where the bat goes from a rough turned shape to a smooth, finished surface, ready for pressing and finishing.

Step 4: Steel-pressing

Every Berg Bat is steel-pressed. It's part of the standard build on every bat we make, not an add-on.

Step 5: Finishing to your specs

Next the bat is finished to the player's specifications. If you designed it in our 3D Bat Builder, this is where your choices come to life: wood, finish, colors, flame, trademark, knob, and personal engraving. Every choice you see in the builder renders in real time, and we hand-build the exact bat you designed.

Step 6: Final inspection

Every bat is personally inspected before it leaves the shop. From billet selection to final inspection, the work happens in Colorado, one bat at a time. It's not a production line. It's a craft.

How long it takes

Custom bats take 2–4 weeks from order to ship. If you need one sooner, our stock bats, stock fungos, and stock trainers are finished and ready to ship off the rack.

Baseball, softball, fungos, trainers, and teams

We build wood bats for both baseball and softball, plus fungos for coaches and training bats built to help you build a better swing. For teams, we offer team stores that keep approved Berg bats with your logo available year-round, with each player choosing the specs that fit.

Our 30-day warranty

Berg Bat offers a 30-day warranty: if your Berg Bat breaks within 30 days of delivery, verify the serial and submit a complete claim on our warranty page. We usually review complete claims within two business days. That said, no wood bat is unbreakable, and any wood bat can still break. What we do promise is the work that goes into every bat: hand-graded, pro-grade wood, turned, sanded, pressed, finished, and inspected by hand.
